Q. Please tell us a little about your background and how you became interested in SEO and SEM for SaaS companies.
I’ve been working in SEO for about 15 years now. Got started by accident. I used to build and sell websites, and once, a client asked me what he needed to do to have more people visit his website. I started researching, and SEO was the answer.
Of course, doing SEO a decade and a half ago was so much different than it is today. About 3 years ago, I decided to get into SaaS. My first tool, which failed miserably, was SaaS software for dental clinics.
It didn’t work out because, even though I work with several dentists in my SEO agency, I didn’t have the internal know-how to build a tool for them. That got me thinking that it would be a good idea to build something related to what I knew about, and that was SEO.
Q. What inspired you to create KatLinks for SaaS companies?
Since I wanted to build something I was familiar with, I decided to build an SEO tool. I validated the idea with my Twitter audience, which is mostly makers and SaaS businesses, so I decided to focus on that niche. The idea was to provide a tool for those that wanted to improve their SEO but couldn’t afford to pay the price of top-tier SEO tools.
Q. Can you briefly tell us what KatLinks does and what are some of the key features and tools available in the platform to help SaaS companies improve their SEO?
It’s an all-in-one tool. It has all the features needed to track and optimize the SEO of a website. Keyword rank tracking, Organic keyword discovery, backlink manager and finder, competitor analysis (keywords & backlinks), backlink opportunities, and on-page audits.
Q. In your opinion, what are the most important SEO metrics that SaaS companies should be tracking, and how can they use this data to improve their SEO strategies?

You need to know where you are ranking to know what you need to optimize for. And know what content brings in more traffic and conversions will allow you to optimize further to increase results and get ideas for new content that can perform similarly.
Q. Can you share any tips for SaaS companies that are just starting with SEO and looking to improve their search rankings? What are some key things they should focus on?
Even in the early stages, figure out your most important keywords and start creating high-quality content based on them. SEO takes time, so the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll see results.
Q. How important is content marketing for SEO, and what role should it play in a SaaS company’s overall SEO strategy?
It is of crucial importance. As I already mentioned, it should be one of the top priorities and initial tasks of an SEO strategy.
Q. How do you see AI impacting the future of SEO? What are some of the key ways that SaaS companies can use AI to improve their SEO strategies?
It will definitely transform how we do SEO, and not just that, it will change how people search online, which will also impact the SEO industry. In my opinion, AI’s best SEO use cases are to generate content ideas and create creative meta tags that can help improve organic CTR.
Of course, everything done with AI has to be reviewed by human intelligence as well. That may change in the future, but that’s currently what can be very helpful.
Q. What are your top 3 favorite link-building strategies for SaaS companies and why?
– Guest posts, either via outreach or collaborations with known contacts
– Side projects are always a good way to acquire backlinks
– If done right, buying backlinks/niche edits can also be good, but it has to be carefully done.
Q. What are your plans for KatLinks and how do you see the tool evolving in the coming years?
We will continue evolving along with best SEO practices, and we’ll start implementing some AI-powered features. We are also adapting KatLinks to the needs of our SEO agency, so in the future, we may go upmarket and try to target small SEO agencies that need an affordable solution.

Get started as soon as possible. That’s the best advice I can give them.
