Running a Gap Analysis
Link Monitor has a built-in gap analysis tool. It finds backlinks your competitors have that you don't — same idea as Link Planner, but you run it right from your monitoring workspace.
Where to find it
Go to Link Monitor > Gap Analysis in the sidebar.
How to run one
Click New Gap Analysis. A short setup wizard walks you through three steps:
- Your domain — enter your website and choose an anchor type (Brand, Generic, etc.)
- Competitors — add between 2 and 5 competitor domains
- Confirm — check your settings and kick off the analysis
It runs in the background. You'll see the status update every few seconds: Pending, then Processing, then Complete.
Reading your results
When it's done, you'll see every backlink your competitors have that you're currently missing. That list is your starting point for finding new link building targets.
Credits
Each analysis pulls from your plan's credit quota. Your remaining credits show at the top of the page. If you've hit your limit, you can upgrade your plan or wait for your billing cycle to reset.
Your past analyses
Every analysis you've run appears in a table. For each one you'll see:
- Status — Pending, Processing, Complete, or Failed
- Credits used — how many credits it cost
- Results count — how many gap links were found
- Actions — retry a failed one, cancel one in progress, or open the results
