How to Run a Competitor Analysis

The Competitor Analysis tool is inside Link Builder. It lets you compare your backlink profile against your competitors' — and because it lives inside your project, the gap opportunities you find here connect directly to your outreach workflow.

Where to find it

Go to Link Builder > Competitors in the sidebar.

Competitor Matrix

A side-by-side comparison table of your domain and your competitors. Your site appears at the top with an "Active" badge.

Each row shows:

  • Domain — the site being compared
  • Authority (DR) — domain rating out of 100
  • Est. Monthly Traffic — estimated organic traffic
  • Total Backlinks — total backlink count
  • Backlink Share — each domain's share of total backlinks, shown as a progress bar

Click Show Gap Sites on any competitor row to jump to the Gap Opportunities tab, pre-filtered to that competitor's link sources.

The "Last Scan" timestamp shows when the data was last updated.

Gap Opportunities

This tab lists domains that link to your competitors but not to you. Each row shows:

  • Referring Website — the gap domain
  • DR — domain rating
  • Est. Traffic — monthly traffic
  • Competitors Linking — which competitors have links from this site
  • Score — High, Medium, or Low priority
  • Status — where this opportunity sits in your workflow (New, Pitched, Acquired, Ignored, etc.)

Filter by search term, competitor, or DR range to narrow the list.

Running a scan

Click Run Competitor Scan to pull fresh backlink data. It takes a few minutes. The scan finds new gap domains and updates metrics for any you've already seen.

How this differs from Link Planner

Link Planner is a standalone tool — useful for one-off gap analysis or sharing a report with a client.

Competitor Analysis inside Link Builder is project-based. Every gap domain you find here has status tracking attached. As you work through outreach, you can mark each one as Pitched, Acquired, or Ignored — so nothing falls through the cracks.
